The Knights of the Realm are an enclave of lords and barons who serve as military commanders for the King's army, on top of performing their typical lordly duties.

They were originally formed as a group of advisors to the King and served as his council. The King held ultimate authority and the Knights acted upon his wishes, whether or not they fully agreed with the King.The Knights would indeed advise the King to the best of their ability but any decisions made in meetings with the King were ultimately made by the King.

Following the success of the creation of The Judges, the King decided to provide the Knights of the Realm greater autonomy in an effort to improve Crown relations with the public and eliminate excessive beaurocracy.

The effort certainly eliminated beaurocracy, and in the short term was a successful attempt by the King to improve efficient rule over his kingdom.

Over time, however, the Knights of the Realm grew hungrier for power now that they were able to exercise additional rights to rule over their portions of land. They began to conspire against the King and appoint their own as a figurehead of their new clan in order to rule the land equally and take a less hospitable approach to international relations.
